My home pulls colors from the beach, ocean and sky (blues, greens, sand, etc) giving it a relaxing coastal look. When deciding on how you want your home to look, I always advise homeowners to never go “too” theme-like. In other words, a little “theme” goes a long way. In other words, when designing around a nautical theme— and in this case were using sea shells—less is best.

It is important not to “overdo” your renovations. If you bought a simple home in an area of simple homes, you definitely don’t want to start building extensive additions to create an albatross that really stands out, and not in a good way either. Take a careful look both at your home and the surrounding homes. Renovate to fit in, allowing the quality of the work and the taste of the project to set it apart.
